About Mr Cope

Mr Cope is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon he works full time in the private sector and sees both private and NHS patients. He has admitting rights to both Renacres private hospital and Fulwood Hall hospital.

He graduated from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 1996 and subsequently undertook his basic surgical training in the North East region. Following this he entered a period of full time research into why hips replacements loosen at Leeds University with an internationally recognised research team under the supervision of Professors Fisher and Ingham. For this research he was awarded a MSc (Engineering) in 2001.

Mr Cope then underwent a year in higher surgical training on the Northern rotation before relocating to the Merseyside area to complete his higher surgical training. He was awarded the FRCS (Tr&Orth) in 2005.

He has also undertaken a Fellowship (a further year of training) abroad in South Australia, in complex lower limb replacement and complex trauma. This was at Flinders Medical Centre and The Repatriation Hospital in Adelaide.

Mr Cope was awarded a Pride Award in 2012 for his introduction of accelerated rehabilitation for arthroplasty at Southport and Ormskirk.

In 2013 his ability to train other surgeons was recognised by his peers when he was awarded the Mersey Trainer of the Year.

From 2007 to 2017 he was an NHS Consultant working at Southport and Ormskirk Hospital and during the period 2014-17 he was  Clinical Director of Orthopaedics.
